The Philanthropy & Society Observatory
Since 1997, the Philanthropy & Society Observatory (formerly the Philanthropy Observatory) has been advancing knowledge on the philanthropic sector and major social, societal, and environmental challenges. Its studies provide a better understanding of these issues both in France and in the world.
The Observatory produces several types of studies examining how foundations work in favor of the public interest, including their strategies and operations, as well as exploring major social challenges where foundations and civil society play a crucial role.
These studies are carried out by the Observatory’s team in collaboration with specialists in the research subjects.
A New Name, A Greater Impact
In November 2024, the Philanthropy Observatory changed its name and became the Philanthropy & Society Observatory. This evolution aligns with the Observatory's growing strategic focus on understanding major social and societal challenges to serve the public good. The change follows the 2022 launch of the "Philanthropy & Society" research series, a collection of studies on the role, place, and responsibilities of philanthropy in addressing societal challenges.
